Soundbites is tucked away in on the Morledge, Derby between the taxi ranks and the bus stops. You’ll be greeted by a busy shop in the morning, which although quite small manages to house a fresh produce selection, two banks of grocery shelving a set of scoop / weigh bins and a three table café. They operate a co-operative which enables them to source fresh vegetables from local growers at Broomfield College, nr Morley, Lodge Farm Kirk Langley and New House Farm nr Ashbourne. Apparently the salad packs and spinach are brought to the shop by bicycle. This attention to the sustainability of the logistics really convinces you that this is a committed and highly considered business venture. On a non-food note, you will shortly be able to take along your Bio-D bottles for refills and qualify for discounts. It’s these details that will encourage you to visit the store more and more. Your only disappointment maybe missing the soup of the day which has been known to be all lapped up by 1pm. Don’t be surprised to see fresh boxes of wet muddy veg arriving with reassuringly distorted shapes that the EU would have fits about. Sound Bites run a veg bag scheme – with manageable small bags which is excellent. Currently you would have to order on Saturday and collect on Thursday.
